His AAV just ruined all future negotiations for teams with this dog sh|t precedent.
70th best point producer this year in the NHL is now the 15th most paid player in the NHL.

Absolutely crazy bad. Guy will maybe be good/decent for 3 more years, then you have him for 5 more at 9mil! crazy.... even if the salary cap keeps going up, which it won't. |

He is a talent, but this overpayment will hurt you in the future. Here’s to hoping not too bad. But you have a hell of a payer in him. |

All you guys that are melting down at what he is getting that is the going rate. just look at who signed the last year or two and what they got. 9M for a 30-40 goal scorer. In 6 years from now he will be cheap. Corry Perry is making 9M and he hasn't scored more than 60 points in 4 years. Voracek is making 8.3M and he is pretty much in a good year in the top 25-35 in scoring. Skinner is just the next in line. |

Wow.
Skinner us overpaid by today's standards for sure.
However, Sabres absolutely needed him, could not let him walk. it's considered a tax around here to get good players to play in Buffalo.
Skinner is
-Top 3 in Evenstrength Goals behind two guys, McDavid and Austin Matthews.
-Top 5 in scoring Game-winning and Game-tying goals.
He IS a GAMER, you don't let talent walk for $500k in view if the aforementioned.
Now the real reason we over paid was to fvck Toronto in negotiations with Mitchy-boy.
That should get him in the $11.5 - $12.0 per range. |

The difference being Corry Perry will be entering the final 2 years of his contract, while Skinner is just going to be starting his. In his prime Perry was a Hart trophy winner, Skinner isn't even close. Perry had season of 76, 72, 98 and 82 point season. Skinner's career year is well behind those.
Voracek is a different player, why only look at goals. He has had two season of 81 and 85 points. Even his somewhat down season this past year at 66 points is better then Skinner's career year. Besides all that, many thought his contract was too much. Why follow someone else's mistake. |

But Perry is going to be 36 so his career is over. but he is still making that for the next 2 years. Voracek is a different player but a player none the less. I could list more players that are overpaid. Bottom line is Buffalo needed scorers and Skinner is a legit scorer, not a one year fluke. What do you think teams will pay for a 30+ a year goal scoring in his prime in the free market. I say 8-9 million. I am curious what people think Panarin will get? 8-9 mil more? He is basically top top 20-30. I might thing he might hit 10M but would that be worth it. Not sure |

Agreed, but necessary for the Sabres IMO, to start showing their other players they'll commit to winning and try and get out of spinning their tires.
Hopefully it works out. |

Looks at Auston Matthews contract, 11.6 million a year for 73 points. Yes 9 million for 63 is so much worse. |
